Domains
Domains, what are they? Well it's very simple really, "domain" is just another word
for a URL. (Uniform Resource Locator) Still confused? When you go onto the internet
to find a site you type in www.thesiteyouwant.co.uk or you go to a search engine and type
in words or phrases that may match the type of site you are looking for. Even a
search engine has a domain, for example take google. www.google.com
The "www" bit stands for world wide web, this tells the computer to look outside your own computer, so the internet. The "google" bit tells your computer an exact code set by the domain registration (You don't need to worry about that bit) and the "com" bit tells your computer the site is world wide, if you have .co.uk it means this site is within the UK, .FR is france. You can also have endings like .org.uk or .gov These are special endings, .org.uk is for organisations within the UK and .gov is web sites owned or about the government. We supply .co.uk, .com, .org.uk and .org domain endings, .co.uk and .org.uk is free with any site we have provided, .com is an extra 5 and .org is an extra 30.
| Changing Domain Names
Once a domain is chosen it cannot be changed! This is actually not entirely true
you can buy a new domain name and transfer your web site from one to the other, but
this is generally very time consuming and means you have to buy a second domain,
because of this we suggest you do not think up any old domain. Here are a few things
to think about when deciding on your domain.
